UFO Convention in Fountain Hills 2/23/2011 – 2/27/2011

Immigration and aliens…. current hot topics in Arizona. But this week (February 23-27, 2011), immigrants from other planets are the topic of conversation at the International UFO Congress 2011 annual convention.

Being held in Fountain Hills…No better place, I say. After all, the deserts around Phoenix and Tucson are hot spots for UFO sightings. 14 years ago, the Phoenix Lights sighting was one of the most talked about UFO sightings in the world and has never been explained.

So why are there so many reported UFO sightings in the desert? Maybe it’s simply that the expansive sky views makes these unidentified flying objects easier to spot. I don’t know. I’d love to see one…but after 10 years…I’m still waiting.

So back to the convention. The International UFO Congress was founded in 1991 with a goal to “research, document and disseminate UFO and related information worldwide”.

The schedule of speaker topics range from The Conundrum of Alien Abduction to Crop Circles: Cosmic Calling Cards?

Speakers will include a wide range of investigators and folks with up close and personal experience with UFO’s including Travis Walton about whom the movie “Fire in the Sky” was based after Travis claimed to have been abducted by aliens in the White Mountains of Arizona. (I loved that movie AND I have a cabin in the White Mountains…but I’m still watching for my first UFO there too. The movie of his abduction was horrific…so maybe I don’t want to see that UFO after all.)

The convention will also offer a time for those who have had “close encounters” to share their stories with each other in a safe atmosphere (no press will be allowed at these “Experiencer Sessions”)

Am I a believer? Well, I do like to keep an open mind about just about everything and “Close Encounters of the Third Kind” is one of my favorite movies… so “Beam me up, Scotty”.

Oh wait, wrong convention.
