Warning to ASU students- Ignoring the light rail rules will cost you $50

Beginning today, Tempe police will be issuing tickets to anyone caught walking on the new light rail tracks, failing to use the crosswalks or tempe-light-railignoring traffic signals at the rail.  A ticket will cost you $50.

Even though the light rail system is still in the testing phase (until December 27, 2008), police say the increased student population now that ASU is back in session poses an increased safety hazard around the rail.  Until now, police have been issuing verbal warnings, but the gig is up and they’re cracking down.
