Will the New Mesa Waveyard waterpark make it to Mesa?

mesa-waveyardPlans for Mesa Waveyard are still in the works supposedly although no new information has been released and the original 2010 opening is rumored to have been changed to 2011.  Golfers weren’t too happy about losing Riverview Golf Course, but in a valley full of golf courses, I think the proposed water adventure park sounds fun.

Surfing, Rafting, Kayaking, Snorkeling, Scuba Diving, Wakeboarding, Canyoneering & Rock climbing are just a few of the attractions that are promised at the Waveyard’s site which will be located at the southeast corner of the Loops 101 & 202 interchange. Waveyard will be in close proximity to the Mesa Riverview retail development, Phoenix’s Sky Harbor airport and Arizona State University (ASU).

Also included is a proposed beach and retail area along with villas which will range from 850 square feet to over 3000 square feet and will be integrated throughout the resort and retail center. Prices should range from the low $300’s to over $1 million dollars, and each villa will include a resident membership to Waveyard.

I’m not sure where they’re going to come up with enough water that will enable scuba diving and rafting in the middle of the desert…but it sure will be interesting to see.

Have you heard anything more from the developers of Waveyard? I was looking forward to it, but they seem to have fallen off the face of the planet in a manner of speaking.
